Gurgaon- A Hub for Innovative Education

“Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.”– Plato

It is an accepted fact that Plato was not the only philosopher who understood the importance of ‘holistic education- educating the mind and soul’. The importance of education is undeniable in an individual’s life, not just to make one fit for the market, but also to focus on his overall development.  And nowhere is this transition more visible than Gurgaon which is today, a centre for dynamic forces and a hub for innovation and startups. Catering to a huge student population, as well as professionals and corporations, Gurgaon has today become the heart of education and learning.  Over the last few years, Gurgaon has seen the establishment of many schools and institutions for higher education, that has been encouraging students to help and focus on this idea of “holism”. There has been a considerable rise in the number of International Schools that follows the new  International Baccalaureate (IB) system, that focuses on not only on developing a child’s academic knowledge but also enable practical application of knowledge.

The Adianta School for Leadership and Innovation (located at the nexus between Gurgaon and Delhi) promotes a radical new approach to innovation education. It advocates hands-on project-based on learning-by-doing rather than the traditional system of classroom teaching. Dr. Aditya Dev Sood, Chairman of the Adianta School for Leadership and Innovation explains about his unique approach to learning- “Innovation is about bringing newness into the world, seeing the world anew or in a new way. But this can happen only with organized socio-technical change.” He adds, “Innovation is about collaboration, routinization, about a structured way of intending things, writing upon the world a collective intentionality, bringing new kind of meaning to the world.”

Liberal and western education is the culture of Gurgaon and represents an interesting confluence of the East and the West.It is not surprising to find a classroom with new innovative teaching modules in today’s world or an eclectic mix of students from different cultural backgrounds. The increased interaction of technology along with an exposure to other corners of the world through globalization has made the world “all- comprehensive, all- inclusive, all- encompassing and extensive”. Today’s world is changing rapidly and being able to adapt and innovate is the only way to stay afloat and survive in this competitive world.
