My first week at CKS started with a bang.Â On the second day itself we were armed with pens, markers, and concept cards to pen down ideas and discuss and debate. The team is now at a crucial stage where we need to give deliverables in a very restricted schedule. As I am getting to know my team and gel with this beautiful place and these beautiful people, I am nervous as well as excited! Iâ€™d like to share some thoughts as my first few days come to a conclusion.
It is important to minimize loopholes while building an idea. Often, one cannot determine where the problem lies and end up discarding what would have been a viable idea. To ensure that ideas materialize, here are some points to keep in mind:
Information Architecture – IA – in a literal way tells how information is arranged or designed. And for that there are several things to keep in mind â€“ hierarchy, navigation, controls, and signs which should be accounted for. Information Architecture is like a roadmap which tries to answer questions such as, â€œWhat are the usersâ€™ primary goals, and how can they achieve them using the product/service?â€ â€œHow should the user navigate if it is a product or service/system?â€ â€œWhat constraint or parameters exist that users have to work around?â€ â€œHow are product features and components work?â€
It addresses how the interaction between the product/system/service and the user take places. Interaction also addresses how features and information of higher importance can be used to draw the usersâ€™ attention and how usersâ€™ primary needs can be satisfied and support the tasks that let them achieve their goals.
It is important to look at how the user thinks while designing â€˜for the userâ€™. Insights from the research and conceptualizing scenarios in this phase will help. Through this process, try we visualize how the user will react to each situation, and anticipate the userâ€™s reaction to each situation.
Visual Design is one of the most important phases of the process. Visual Design communicates interactivity, information structures, workflows, and relationships between the elements and components on a screen, making it an essential aspect. Questions like, â€œHow intuitive your product is?â€ or â€œWill the user be able to guide himself while using it?â€ are answered via this process.
This is last phase in which one makes an actual prototype of the product. One needs to figure what medium and ways they will be using to test out the product and how realistic the prototype is as compared to the final product. It is essential to decide how the prototype works and looks as it helps you gain an insight on what aspect of the product needs modification.
