Design!publiC 2 in Bangalore on October 14!

Once again, it’s becoming time for Design Public the event, a high-level conclave on design, innovation, and the public interest. Our up-coming event will be in Bangalore on the 14th of October, and already there are conversations and planning sessions afoot in preparation for it. The Conclave will be held at the National Gallery of Modern Art, which is housed in a century-old Manikyavelu mansion, which was once the property of the Mysore royal family.

At our inaugural event, in New Delhi on March 18th earlier this year, we focused on the question of whether innovation in governance is needed and how it can be achieved. An excellent overview of the event can be found in this article in Mint Newspaper by Aparna Piramal Raje.

Leading thinkers in the area of innovation, design, development, entrepreneurship and public policy will participate in this edition of Design Public. These include:

Rajeev Chandrashekhar, Member of Parliament (Bangalore / New Delhi)
Ramesh Ramanathan, Founder, Janaagraha (Bangalore)
Rohini Nilekani, Founder, Arghyam Foundation (Bangalore)
M. P. Ranjan, Professor Emeritus, NID (Ahmedabad)
Mahesh Murthy, Founder, Pinstorm (Mumbai)
Rishikesha Krishnan, Professor, IIM-B (Bangalore)
Ivo Gormely, Director, Think Public (London)
Ashwin Mahesh, Founder, Mapunity (Bangalore)
Shiv Visvanathan, Social Scientist and Anthropologist (Gandhinagar)
Samar Halankar, Editor-at-large, Mint Newspaper (Bangalore)

A formal consultation with all stakeholders took place recently in Bangalore. The partners wrestled with fundamental questions such as how to define and bound innovation? What was the necessary intersection between design and innovation? How to most clearly establish the link between inclusive economic growth and innovation activities? What successful examples of innovation in India can be cited? What are grand challenges of the day towards which we would like to see innovation processes deployed? What kind of policy and programmatic outcomes might be considered success parameters from the up-coming conclave?

Participation in Design!publiC is by arrangement only. If you are interested in participating in this conversation on innovation, design thinking, and the public interest please contact us at

  1. I got to know of the Design Public conference scheduled for 14th Oct from my DesignIndia Group mailing. I wish to attend the event.

As an alumnus of NID and IDC, IIT-B, I was with the electronics industry for the last 32 years before taking up a teaching assignment at a management institute, Welingkar Institute of Mngt Dev & Research at Bangalore. I head the faculty of Business Design. Business Design integrates innovation and design thinking with management concepts.

I would like to take the opportunity of the conference to meet with innovation thinkers.

    Thanks and best regards

    Mohan Chandra

  2. I am an alumnus of IIT D, Currently works for Desta, a poverty reduction venture, as a lead product designer.
we are focused to work in human centered design, sustainable design initiatives, that can reach other 90% of the world population, we call it “DESIGN FOR OTHER 90%” time has come to design for these masses who still strive to get less than 2$ a Day,

i would like to be the part of this design conference, rather i see it as design break where we can slowly take out some extra breath to push our thoughts, share stories, and meet other design wavelengths.

    thanks and wishes
