The host of design and innovation conferences in India over the past couple of years clearly indicates the increasing recognition from a variety of different individuals, institutions and governing bodies that design-led innovation is the key to many of our aspirations for future social and economic growth. One such conference, Abhikalpana: The National Design Innovation Conference, will be held in Mumbai tomorrow and the following day. The conference was organized in response to Sam Pitroda’s proposal for creating more platforms for spreading awareness and sharing ideas on the importance of design and innovation in the development context. It’s stated objective is to
look at innovation as a process driven by a gamut of disciplines including management, engineering and design. It will address the need to focus on innovation as an essential factor for progress of the country.
It hopes to do so by presenting various case studies of design innovation, from experts from government, industry and academia, as well as showcase student work. In addition, it hopes to further explore areas of untapped potential and discuss processes for need-based innovation. This year, the conference will focus on three areas: Innovation in emerging economies, Education for innovation, and User-centered Design.
CKS’ founder and CEO, Dr. Aditya Dev Sood, will be participating at the conference, and will provide his reflections on the event soon.
Abhikalpana will be held on 26th-27th June 2012 at the Victor Menezes Convention Center, IDC, IIT Bombay.
