Design Public is not merely an exercise of the mind in the theory of innovation and the ideal of an innovation society. In the first three panels the challenges, needs, and goals of India’s development as an innovation society will be discussed and debated. The four breakout sessions, on Smarter Cities, Rural Innovation, 50 Steps to an Innovation Society, and Need-based Startups, are designed to brainstorm tangible action towards overcoming barriers and moving towards the overarching vision.
The Concluding Plenary session will challenge participants to act upon their ideas. Leading thinkers in government, media, and sectoral experts will use the final panel to integrate the day’s work by laying out the tangible steps towards the development of an innovation society that have grown out of the Design Public process and how they will be accomplished. As the final conversation in Design Public III, it aims to go beyond ideas and theory and instead develop definitive action, collaboration, and cooperation.
It will be mediated by Chakshu Roy, head of technology initiatives at PRS legislative research, an initiative that provides non-partisan analysis to all Members of Parliament in India. Bhairavi Jani, of India@75, will return to participate in the panel, as will Jeby Cherian of IBM. They will also be joined by Niyati Mehta of the Tata Trusts, Arun Maira of the National Planning Commission and Aditya Dev Sood, founder and CEO of the Center for Knowledge Societies, the organizer of the Design Public Conclave.
